Lysa Gora

For many centuries, Lysa Gora in Lviv was considered the place of residence of the unclean and the witches’ coven. Previously, the location had a slightly different name – Gora Leva. It was named so because one of the castles of Prince Lev Danylovych stood on it from the 13th century – it was destroyed by the Poles in 1340. According to legend, it was precisely because of the coven of witches, sorceresses and devils that trees stopped growing on the tops of the hills, so the mountain literally became bald – later this name took root.

There is another legend about this place: allegedly, in the 17th century, there was a gypsy camp at the foot of the mountain, but the locals drove them out. The gypsies left behind a well they had cursed. Later, a boy drowned in her from unrequited love. Since then, the well attracted people who wanted to shorten their lives, and the locals decided to bury it.

Today, you can climb Lysa Gora in Lviv by a path with stairs from Dovbusha Street. By the way, there is a very beautiful view from there – Lviv is like in the palm of your hand.

Olesky Castle

Old castles hide a lot of interesting historical facts and secrets behind their walls, and Olesky Castle is special. There is a legend that a Capuchin monk once lived here, who was also a lover and never missed an opportunity to visit village girls. The other monks didn’t like it very much, so they decided to wall it up. After the death of the grieving lover, the ghost seemed to start wandering around the castle.

The castle is located in the village of Olesko at 30 Zamkova street. You can visit it both independently and with a tour guide.

Dungeon of Lviv

Most local residents have no idea how huge the underground system in Lviv is – the total length of the tunnels is about 100 kilometers! By the way, only a third of the entire length is open to visitors.

Among the most interesting, experienced tour guides include the dungeons of the Dominican monastery, the dungeons of the museum-pharmacy Under the Black Eagle, the dungeons of the Jesuit church, the dungeons of the Lviv coffee mine, and the fifth dungeon. The extensive underground passageways at one time collected a lot of bloody references. For example, locals say that the Arsenal dungeon, where the Rebernia facility is now located, used to be a place of torture and was the home of the city executioner.
