President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi will visit a factory in Pennsylvania on September 22, as part of his visit to the United States, that produces 155-millimeter artillery shells, the Associated Press reports with reference to its own sources.

According to journalists, the plant, located in the city of Scranton, is one of the few enterprises in the United States that produces 155 mm artillery shells.

They are used in howitzers, which can engage targets at a distance of 24 to 32 kilometers and are highly valued by ground forces.

Video of the day

At some point in the war, Ukraine used from 6 thousand to 8 thousand 155-mm shells per day. This pace has begun to deplete the Pentagon’s arsenals and has raised concerns among US officials that there will not be enough ammunition to meet US military needs – especially if another major war with conventional weapons breaks out. (for example, in a potential conflict with China over Taiwan).

In an attempt to solve this problem, the United States invested in restarting production lines and now American military factories produce more than 40 thousand 155 mm shells per month (soon it is planned to increase the volume to 100 thousand shells). It is expected that during his visit, Zelenskyi will meet personally thanks the workers plant in Scranton.

According to AR information, with the President of Ukraine two high-ranking officials of the Pentagon, who initiated the increase in projectile production, will arrive at the plant, — Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Doug Bush and Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Bill LaPlante, as well as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

President Zelenskyi is also expected to speak at the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, and then head to Washington for talks with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
