NV, with the help of experts, found out whether the cities will have light, heat and water in winter, and how the government, mayors and businesses are trying to cope with the inevitable shortage of generation.

Up to 12 hours without electricity in the best case and up to 20 hours in the worst – such almost apocalyptic scenarios of the state of affairs in Ukrainian cities and villages in autumn and winter are considered by the experts of the Ukrainian Center for Combating Disinformation. Shutdowns cannot be avoided, and their duration will depend on the number of NPP power units in operation, the restoration of damaged capacities, new potential attacks by the Russian Federation on the Ukrainian energy industry, as well as how severe the frost will be.

The European Commission does not even exclude it a real humanitarian disaster” in Ukraine, when water pumps and sewage networks will not function due to the lack of electricity, and there will also be problems with heating. According to Kadri Simson, the EU energy commissioner, the coming winter may be the hardest for Ukrainians since the Second World War. Therefore, the European official called on the international community to comprehensively help official Kyiv with the repair of facilities and the supply of the necessary equipment.

The extremely negative forecasts seem logical, because for two years the Russians have been systematically destroying the Ukrainian generation and energy system with the help of missiles and drones. And this year, the Russian Federation only intensified its attacks.

The total losses of domestic capacities as a result of this year’s attacks exceeded 9 GW, Herman Galushchenko, the head of the Ministry of Energy, said recently. And it’s a big one “minus” for the energy system, because last winter at its peak the country consumed 18 GW — and this was already accompanied by constant blackouts.
