France has unveiled a new centre-right government, more than two months after elections that deepened political divisions.

The left-wing coalition won the majority of seats in the June-July elections, but was unable to win an absolute majority.

In early September, French President Emmanuel Macron appointed 73-year-old conservative politician Michel Barnier as the country’s prime minister.

The new prime minister formed a government after weeks of difficult negotiations and was approved by President Emmanuel Macron. The new government was announced in the presidential palace.

Michel Barnier is the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of France under President Jacques Chirac. He was Minister of Environmental Protection in the early to mid-1990s, Secretary of European Affairs and Minister of Agriculture. Since the 1970s, he has been elected to the parliament, held high positions in the European Union, in particular, he was the main negotiator from the EU on the terms of Great Britain’s exit from the union.
