Not Methuselah and not even Besedin. Lucescu – about the top talent with whom he worked

The head coach of the Romanian national team, Mircea Lucescu, who is known in Ukraine for his work with Shakhtar and Dynamo, singled out a key talent with whom he once crossed paths in his coaching career.

“If I could have worked with Sergen Yalchyn when he was young, nobody would be talking about Zinedine Zidane now. Sergen was the most talented player I have ever seen. He was incredible. But he got distracted. In the break [між грою у футбол] he bet on horse races. But he was a great player, an outstanding talent,” journalist Emanuel Rochu quotes Lucescu as saying.

Sergen Yalchyn was Lucescu’s protege in two Turkish teams – Galatasaray and Besiktas. Under the leadership of the Romanian coach, this midfielder played 98 official matches, in which he scored 31 goals and 29 assists. At the time of starting work with Mircea Yalchyn, he was already 29 years old.

Sergen Yalchyn is currently unemployed. In the summer of this year, he left the position of head coach of Antalyaspor.
