The company expects that next year the Russian An-124 cargo plane will be confiscated and the process of its transfer to Ukraine will begin.
Sources at JSC “Antonov” told EP about this.
Antonov’s management expects that the Canadian court for the confiscation of the Russian plane will last another six months, after which the Canadian government will seize the ship for its own benefit, make an assessment and hand it over to Ukraine as military aid.
Specialists of JSC “Antonov” at the request of the Canadian government have already inspected the Russian plane and stated that it is in perfect condition.
A Russian An-124 “Ruslan” was stuck at an airfield in Canada in February 2022, when the country closed the skies to Russian aircraft. The owner of the Volga-Dnepr company, which owns the plane, was sanctioned by the government. Under Canadian law, his property can now be confiscated.
In June of this year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be next promised hand over a Russian plane to Ukraine. At the same time, Germany does not yet have a mechanism to confiscate three Russian An-124 “Ruslan” that are stuck at their airfield in Leipzig.
