Details: The newspaper claims that the British and American sides have been discussing for a long time the possibility of allowing the Storm Shadow missiles to strike Russia.

It was assumed that this decision could be announced during the joint visit of the heads of the foreign policy departments of both countries – Anthony Blinken and David Lammy – to Kyiv last Wednesday.

The parties prepared two versions of the final statements and, due to unresolved details, announced the one that discussed further discussions regarding the authorization of long-range strikes of Ukraine.

Among other things, according to The Times, the US is holding off on approving the permit until it sees a “victory plan” that Volodymyr Zelensky wants to present to Joe Biden during a meeting next week.

Instead, the British side, the publication says, wants to create the impression that such a move comes from a larger number of NATO allies, and for this purpose organized a meeting of the heads of the foreign policy departments of the USA, Britain, France, Germany and Italy in Paris.

But one interlocutor of the publication suggested that the US is more focused on “creating the legacy” of Biden and wants to speed up the decision.

The Times says the authorization to strike Russia with Storm Shadow missiles could be approved as soon as next week and would be kept private so as not to give Russia additional warning of a possible attack.

We will remind:

  • Ukraine seeks to use long-range missiles to target Russian airbases and military facilities used for attacks on Ukrainian cities. The media previously wrote that Britain does not want to act alone in this matter without the approval of the United States.
  • NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg supported the authorization of long-range strikes against Ukraine, skeptically evaluating the “red lines” established by Vladimir Putin.
