“Rustem Umerov and Ursula von der Leyen opened the EU Defense Innovation Office. The event became a new level of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of defense technologies,” the press service of the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense noted that “the main focus is joining efforts to strengthen defense capabilities, including joint developments in IT and weapons production.”
Umerov noted “strengthening cooperation with the EU in the field of defense technologies and the potential of Ukrainian defense production.”
The minister also called on European partners to invest in Ukrainian manufacturers and emphasized the two main goals of cooperation with the European Commission – “restoring peace and stability in Europe and ensuring Ukraine’s right to be part of the EU.”
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived in Kyiv on the morning of September 20. This is her eighth visit to the capital of Ukraine.
On the eve of her third visit, the President of the European Commission announced that the European Union will allocate another 160 million euros to help Ukraine’s energy system, which was hit by Russian strikes. According to her, given the assistance in repairs and exports, the EU will cover more than 25% of Ukraine’s electricity needs for the winter.
