“We received such an invitation, we are grateful to the Mexican side for it,” he said.

The current president of Mexico, Andriy Manuel Lopez Obrador, emphasized that detaining Putin “is impossible and it is not up to them,” the media reports. Despite the fact that Mexico is one of the countries participating in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and the Russian ruler is a war criminal for whose arrest there is a warrant.

The article reports that Putin, for his part, has appointed his representative who will represent Russia at the event. In the interview, Shchetynin did not explain why the Kremlin owner refused to fly to the inauguration, he only noted that Moscow “acts according to protocol practice.”
