The European Commission will provide Ukraine with a loan of up to 35 billion euros, said the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“Russia’s relentless attacks mean that Ukraine needs further support from the EU. The European Commission will provide Ukraine with a loan of up to 35 billion euros as part of the G7 commitment. This is another major contribution of the EU to the restoration of Ukraine,” says the message published on her account on the Kh. social network.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a briefing with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, clarified that these 35 billion will be spent primarily “on energy, on defense.”

“Also for bomb shelters for children in schools, kindergartens, universities. This is a big deficit for us. First of all, domestically produced weapons,” he said.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived in Kyiv on the morning of September 20. This is her eighth visit to the capital of Ukraine.

On the eve of her third visit, the President of the European Commission announced that the European Union will allocate another 160 million euros to help Ukraine’s energy system, which was hit by Russian strikes. According to her, given the assistance in repairs and exports, the EU will cover more than 25% of Ukraine’s electricity needs for the winter.

On September 19, the UN mission said that Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure caused significant damage and could lead to even more devastating consequences as winter approaches.

According to the Ministry of Energy, since October 2022, Russia has carried out more than a thousand strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities, this year alone 9 GW of generating capacity was lost due to strikes.
