Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleh Katkov, after the spectacular and large-scale explosion of an ammunition warehouse in Toropka, told in an interview with Radio NV how many vulnerable targets are located in the European part of Russia and which the Armed Forces can reach.
— What do you, your team, know about how many other similar warehouses, like the one in Toropka, exist in the Russian Federation? Or maybe it was someone special?
– This is not a rank and file. It is not ordinary because it belongs to the arsenals of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The GRAU Arsenal is not an ordinary warehouse with ammunition, but a central place for their storage.
You need to understand how ammunition supply works in general: from a huge warehouse to large, smaller, smaller, smaller, until it ends with an ammunition warehouse in a platoon base. But the central element is the GRAU warehouses, where the largest amount of ammunition is stored, which is then distributed among smaller warehouses.

And very valuable things are stored there. Ordinary ammunition can be stored, of course, but very valuable, scarce items that require appropriate storage conditions can also be stored. Because each item has its own warranty period, it is necessary to actually store ammunition in appropriate temperature conditions, humidity, etc.
And therefore, for example, no one will simply store ballistic missiles somewhere in the garage. There are specialized storage areas for this purpose. And the more expensive the product, the more specific warehouses it is stored.
