According to the correspondent of UNIAN, von der Leyen said this at a press conference dedicated to the support of Ukraine’s energy security in connection with the approach of winter. “The heating season will start in two weeks. As the temperature is dropping, the European Union is ready to increase its support to Ukraine. We are preparing for winter together. After this press conference, I will go to Kyiv to discuss these issues personally with President Zelensky tomorrow,” Von der Leyen said.

She is also very pleased that she can count on the constant support of the International Energy Agency for the purpose of providing assistance to Ukraine.

As the President of the European Commission noted, in general, according to the lowest estimate, from February 2022, at least 2 billion euros were allocated to support the energy sector of Ukraine.

“Today I can announce that we will contribute additional funds of around 160 million euros for this winter. This includes 60 million euros in humanitarian aid, for example for shelters and heaters, and it includes around 100 million euros for repair work and renewable sources energy,” von der Leyen emphasized.

She specified that these 100 million euros come from frozen Russian assets in the European Union.

What precededAs reported by UNIAN, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine stated that in winter, Ukraine may face power outages that will last from 4 to 18 hours a day. The scale of outages will depend on several main factors. First, from how much capacity Ukrainian specialists will be able to restore before the beginning of winter. Secondly, from how cold it will be.
