Swimmer Oleksandr Komarov won Ukraine’s first gold at the Paralympic Games in Paris

Swimmer Oleksandr Komarov won the 100-meter freestyle. He finished in 1:07.77 minutes, setting a new Paralympic record for the S5 class (athletes with musculoskeletal limitations).

This is Ukraine’s sixth medal at the 2024 Paralympics and Komarov’s second personal one in Paris. He previously won bronze in the 200m freestyle (S5 class).

Oleksandr won the second Paralympic gold in his career. In 2016, he won the 4×100 meter freestyle relay.

The XVII Summer Paralympic Games are the eighth Summer Games with the participation of Ukrainian Paralympic athletes. Ukraine will be represented by 140 athletes who will compete in 17 out of 22 sports.

During the years of independence, Ukrainians took part in seven summer and seven winter Paralympic Games and won a total of 613 medals.
