Russian troops continue to put pressure on the Defense Forces of Ukraine and have recently advanced along the Kupyansk-Svatov-Kreminna line, within Toretsk, in the Vugledar region and in the Zaporizhzhia region. At the same time statements “soldiers” about new advances in the direction of Pokrovsk remain unconfirmed.
This is stated in a new report of the Institute for the Study of War.
Conditional line Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna (Kharkiv and Luhansk regions): Geolocated footage published on September 18 shows the advance of Russian troops to the west of Tabaivka (southeast of Kupyansk), west of Karmazynivka (to the southwest of Svatovoy) and to the south along the road O-131306 (Svatove-Makiivka), that is, to the northwest of the already occupied Kreminnaya. One of the Russian ones “Voenkoriv” claimed that the occupiers had also advanced in the forest areas near Pischany (southeast of Kupyansk) and Nevsky (northwest of Kreminnaya), however, ISW found no visual evidence for these claims.
Pokrovsky direction: On September 17-18, Russian military personnel claimed that Russian troops allegedly advanced west across the Zhuravka River within Grodovka (village east of Pokrovsk) and in the northern part of Grodivka. Russian “militants” also claimed that the occupiers allegedly advanced to Gogol Street in the north-eastern part Selydovoy and to the northern outskirts of the village of Hirnyk. The other is Russian “on September 18, said that Russian troops had allegedly captured Grodivka and were “cleansing” this settlement. However, ISW found no confirmation of all these Russian claims. Today’s report states that Russian troops “according to reports, continued to advance southeast and east of Pokrovsk, but did not make any confirmed advances” in the direction of the city.
In the city of Toretsk the troops of the Russian Federation have recently achieved new minor advances. Geolocated footage released on September 18 shows that Russian troops have recently advanced along Tsentralnaya Street in the eastern part of Toretsk. At the same time, Russian pro-war publics claimed that the occupiers allegedly advanced further to the north and west within the eastern districts of Toretsk. One of the “warriors” stated that Russian troops had allegedly advanced in the wooded areas southeast of Toretsk, but ISW could not find confirmation of this statement.
On the Ugledarsky direction Russian occupation forces have recently advanced and are continuing offensive operations. Footage with confirmed geolocation, published on September 18, shows the advance of Russian forces in the area to the north Water. Russian “militants” also claimed that the Russian army continued to advance near the Yuzhnodonbaska mine No. 1, while acknowledging the counterattacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the Yuzhnodonbaska mines No. 1 and No. 3 (both northeast of Vugledar).
In the Zaporizhzhia region the occupiers have recently advanced into the area Gulyaipolya. Geolocated footage, published on September 18, recorded that Russian troops recently conquered the garden area in the northwest of Marfopol (southeast of Gulyaipol). One of the Russian ones “Voenkoriv” stated on September 18 that Russian troops allegedly captured the entire Marfopil and advanced in the fields to the northwest of this settlement. The General Staff of Ukraine announced the attacks of Russian troops near Gulyaipol on September 18. However, ISW has not observed any confirmed Russian gains in the area since 18 July 2024.
