“Due to strong gusts of wind and prolonged drought, the fire quickly spread over a large area. Emergency personnel continue to work on the complete elimination of the fire and prevention of its re-ignition. As of 12:00 p.m., the area covered by the fire is about 550 hectares. There is no threat of the fire spreading directly to populated areas,” the report says.
Six forest fires are also ongoing in the Kharkiv region, rescuers managed to contain four of them, reports the head office of the State Emergency Service in the Kharkiv region.
The total area of these forest fires is more than 460 hectares.
According to the service, the largest forest fire in terms of area was recorded on the territory of the Vasyshchev forestry near the village of Vasyshchev Bezlyudivska hromada.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources reported that as of September 17, 20 forest fires were being extinguished in Ukraine. In general, according to the ministry, 440 fires with an area of 400 hectares occurred in Ukraine this year, 60% of all fires – more than 900 on 15.6 thousand hectares – were caused by hostilities.
