“Let me thank you for your steadfast support of Ukraine. Russia continues attacks on civilian infrastructure, destroys the energy system. We need to provide Ukraine with all possible help to get through the next winter in conditions of massive energy shortages. This means maximizing our capacity to export electricity for Ukraine and Moldova. Thanks to the unified network and clean energy capabilities in neighboring countries, we can do it,” the European Commissioner emphasized.
She noted that the European side is stepping up efforts to overcome the damage caused by Russian bombings and to restore damaged energy facilities in Ukraine. According to Simson, the Energy Fund for the Support of Ukraine has already mobilized more than 510 million euros for this purpose. In addition, member states provided over 900 million euros in emergency aid to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
“So, in general, about 40 percent of all subsidies for Ukraine from member countries were directed to the energy sector. In addition, they use 50 billion euros from the Ukrainian Investment Fund, which provides meaningful financing for economic growth until 2027. But winter is already at the door. And now we have one last chance to act. I urge this House to support these efforts for as long as necessary,” Simson said.
