The Ukrainian military could use Neptune missiles to strike Russian ammunition depots near the temporarily occupied Mariupol on Tuesday, September 17. This was reported by the Defense Express portal.

According to analysts, the fact that the military warehouses were destroyed with the help of Ukrainian-made missiles can be evidenced by the fact that the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported about it.

The strike was also carried out against a target located less than 100 kilometers from the front line.

Defense Express also suggests that there are two conclusions to be drawn from this strike. The first is positive due to the probable increase in the production of Ukrainian cruise missiles. At the same time, this may also indicate a shortage of Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG or ATACMS cruise missiles

On the night of September 13, explosions rang out in Mariupol. The adviser to the mayor of the city, Petro Andryushchenko, confirmed the hitting of an enemy warehouse with ammunition and missiles for air defense systems in the suburbs.

On September 17, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported that units of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a missile attack on Russian ammunition warehouses located near the temporarily occupied Mariupol. It was not specified when the attack was carried out.

On September 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces need more ATACMS missiles to strike Russian targets.

The Neptune missile is a subsonic cruise missile developed by the Ukrainian company KB Luch.

It was presented for the first time at the international exhibition Weapons and Security in Kyiv in 2015, and in 2021 it entered service with the Naval Forces of Ukraine. It weighs 870 kg and is 5.05 meters long. The weapon is designed to hit ships with a displacement of up to 9,000 tons and has a range of over 200 kilometers and can hit sea and land targets in the land-based version. The missile is equipped with a Motor Sich MS400 turbofan engine and advanced guidance and radio electronic systems.
