The majority of Ukrainians are ready to stay in the country, even if they receive the citizenship of the USA or any EU state. This is evidenced by the survey results of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KMIS).

Sociologists asked Ukrainians: “Would you move to the USA or EU countries for permanent residence if you were granted citizenship without conditions?”.

79% of respondents answered that they would stay at home. At the same time, 19% of respondents said that they would move to another country. Another 2% of respondents were undecided.

In September 2022, 91% of Ukrainians said they wanted to stay in Ukraine. At that time, only 7% of respondents said they wanted to leave. In KMIS, it is assumed that this was connected with the growth of patriotism and optimism about the future of Ukraine.

In the regional dimension, the largest number of people willing to stay in Ukraine are now in the west of Ukraine — 81%. Almost as much (80%) of Ukrainians live in the south. The least willing to stay at home is in the eastern regions — 75%.

The survey showed that currently 74% of Ukrainians under the age of 30 want to stay in the country. A similar trend is characteristic of people aged 30 to 44, among whom 75% currently do not want to move from Ukraine.

Sociologists also provided data separately for men and women aged 25−55, i.e., the main mobilization age.

According to the results of the survey, 70% of men do not want to leave the country, and 27% want to leave. Among women, 80% would not like to move from Ukraine, and 18% have such a desire.

KMIS explained that these results are given for both sexes to show that men’s desire to go abroad cannot be linked to mobilization alone. For example, in 2020, more men wanted to emigrate than women.

The survey was conducted from September 1 to 6 by telephone interviews throughout the country controlled by the Ukrainian government.

1022 respondents over the age of 18 took part in the survey. The statistical error of such a sample did not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%, 3.5% for indicators close to 25%, 2.5% for indicators close to 10%, 1.8% for indicators , close to 5%.
