The defender of Sheffield United, Anel Ahmedhodzic, has been permanently excluded from the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the press service of the Football Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina reports.

Earlier, the 25-year-old Bosnian announced his temporary refusal to play for the national team, and also criticized the national team’s medical staff, calling their attitude to the matter “frivolous and dilettantish”.

“An invitation to the national team of a country is a high act, the crown of many years of hard work and self-sacrifice, the dream of every player who aspires to have a respectable football career.

Therefore, we clearly and unequivocally declare: our national team will not suffer because of those who do not want, cannot or simply do not perform on the field. So that this is not some kind of general announcement, from which you can guess who it partially applies to, but it is not explicitly stated, I want to make it clear: no one, not even Mr. Anel Ahmedhodzic, can choose when and at what time it will be available for national team, and when not.

Therefore, we take this opportunity to make it clear that this is the final end of Anel Ahmedhodzic’s international career. Not for the near future, but also for the most distant. To invite him again, in the near or distant future, would be, I believe, a great insult to everyone who loves this country and this national team.

His actions have no justification and basis in reality, and by this he offended all Bosnians and Herzegovinians. Therefore, our answer is as it is: clear and decisive. Everyone who wants to be a part of our history is always welcome. Those who do not want to leave us alone in our efforts to realize our dreams and the dreams of our fans”, – said the sports director of the national team, Emir Spahic.

Ahmedhodzic made his debut in the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in October 2020. Since then, he has played 24 matches in which he scored one goal.
