The US State Department assessed the consequences of the meeting between Biden and Starmer for strikes on the Russian Federation/ REUTERSThe meeting between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer did not affect the change in US policy regarding the possible permission for the Armed Forces to strike with their weapons deep into Russia. This was stated by the head of the press service of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, at a briefing.“I have no announcements about changes in our policy today,” he stressed.
At the same time, Miller added, the United States will continue to discuss with Ukraine possible ways of support so that it can win this war. He clarified that it is about the provision of technical means and intelligence.
“We always discuss with Ukrainians what they need and how we can provide them with support as best as possible,” added the head of the press service.
He also recalled the statements of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that the US is ready to “adapt and adjust this policy as necessary” – in such a way that it makes “strategic sense”.
Miller, however, did not respond to a question about whether the hitting policy might still be changed in the future, saying he had “no announcement today” about it.
US permission to strike RussiaAs the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, recently stated, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently not allowed to strike with Western weapons deep into the territory of the Russian Federation. He emphasized that Ukraine simply wants to be able to attack bases used for bombing Ukrainian territory.
US President Joe Biden announced that his administration is currently considering lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons in the conflict with Russia.
At the same time, as The Times wrote, Great Britain will not allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles against targets in Russia without the consent of the United States.
