Easy A cast: Where are they now? A look at stars of the hit teen comedy 14 years after the movie was released

Easy A was an instant success when it hit the cinemas in 2010, grossing over $75 million worldwide.

The teen comedy, directed by Will Gluck, follows Olive Pendergast (Emma Stone) a high school student who lies about losing her virginity and is labeled as promiscuous by her classmates.

Olive then becomes a self-proclaimed ‘Easy A’ and offers fake sexual favors to other students for money.

The film — which also starred Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Lisa Kudrow, and Stanley Tucci among others — was partially inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 novel The Scarlet Letter.

Fourteen years after the film’s release, DailyMail.com takes a look-back at where the stars of the movie are now. 

1. Emma Stone (Olive Pendergast) 

Easy A was an instant success when it hit the cinemas in 2010, and established Emma Stone, 35, who played Olive Pendergast, as a rising star. Emma’s career has continued to skyrocket, and she has since won two Oscars (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2024)

Stone, now 35, played a seventeen-year-old high school girl living in Ojai, California in the movie. 

Olive’s life took a dramatic turn after she lied about losing her virginity to a guy named George. A number of her other lies got misconstrued and quickly spread through her school.

Stone’s performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, along with a Teen Choice Award and an MTV Movie Award.

It was her breakout role. Prior to that, she had appeared in a few supporting roles in TV and films including Superbad, Zombieland and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. 

Her performance in Easy A launched her career and established her as a rising star in Hollywood. 

She went on to star in The Help (2011), Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), and The Amazing Spider-Man series (2012-2014).

Her performances in Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), La La Land (2016), and The Favourite (2018), earned her Academy Award nominations. 

She won her first Oscar for La La Land.  

Most recently she starred in Yorgos Lanthimos’ acclaimed movie Poor Things (2023), for which she won her second Oscar.

As for her personal life, she’s been married to Saturday Night Live segment director Dave McCary since 2020. They share daughter Louise Jean together, who was born in 2021. 

Together they live in Austin, Texas. 

2. Penn Badgley (Woodchuck Todd)

Penn Badgley’s, 37, career has also continued to soar since playing Todd, Olive’s crush and the school mascot, in the teen comedy (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2023)

Penn Badgley, 37, played Todd in Easy A. 

He was the guy Olive had had a crush on since childhood and the one who played the school mascot.

Prior to his role on the movie he rose to fame as Dan Humphrey in the popular series Gossip Girl, where he starred from 2007 until 2012, alongside his then real-life girlfriend Blake Lively.

He also appeared in films like John Tucker Must Die, Drive-Thru, and The Stepfather. 

His most notable recent work is in the Netflix psychological thriller series You, where he’s been starring since 2018 as Joe Goldberg. 

Badgley began dating singer Domino Kirke in 2014. 

The two married in 2017, and he became the stepfather of Kirke’s son. 

In 2020 they announced they were expecting their first child together, and went on to welcome their son later that year. 

3. Amanda Bynes (Marianne)

Amanda Bynes, 38, played played Marianne in the film. It was her last listed acting credit. The child star turned Hollywood teen queen retired from acting amid a combination of personal struggles, including mental health issues and substance abuse (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2024)

Amanda Bynes, 38, played Marianne, the president of the school’s Cross Your Heart club. Her religious club judged people like Olive for their ‘ungodly’ behaviors.

Easy A was her last listed acting credit.

Bynes, a child star turned Hollywood teen queen who once had a dazzling career full of promise, retired from acting amid a combination of personal struggles, including mental health issues and substance abuse.

In 2023 she was placed on a psychiatric hold after being found naked and alone on the streets of downtown LA in the early hours of the morning. 

The California-born star started out in the industry at the age of seven, and went on to become one of the biggest child actors of her generation, appearing in shows like All That and The Amanda Show on Nickelodeon.

She later transitioned to a teenage romcom queen, starring in a number of successful films, including She’s the Man, alongside Channing Tatum, in 2006, as well as Big Fat Liar, and What a Girl Wants.

But just when she seemed to have the world at her feet, her career took a hit following a 2012 DUI arrest, culminating in her being charged with two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run.

And her troubles didn’t end there, as the following year, the actress was placed under a nine-year-long conservatorship – following a continued struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues.

In 2019, Bynes checked into a mental health facility following a relapse.

The former child star had planned a Hollywood comeback in 2018, and that decision contributed to her relapse, it was reported at the time.

However after her setback, the retired actress appeared to be doing great and even graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in June 2019.

In 2022 Bynes’ conservatorship of nine years was terminated, after a judge ruled the legal arrangement was ‘no longer required.’

Bynes began a bumpy on/off romance with Paul Michael, after the two stayed at the same sober living facility, and announced her shock engagement on Valentine’s Day in 2020.

She later called off the engagement in 2022.

4. Dan Byrd (Brandon) 

Dan Byrd, 38, played Brandon in the movie. He’s had a solid career since, with his most recent acting credit on the show Young Sheldon (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2013)

His character wanted Olive to pretend to have sex with him so that he wouldn’t get bullied at school anymore.

At the end of the film, he told his parents that he was gay and then ran away from home. 

Byrd has also appeared on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Good Doctor, Cougar Town, Scandal, Mad Men and The Good Cop.

His most recent acting credit is as Pastor Rob on the show Young Sheldon.

5. Thomas Haden Church (Mr. Griffith)

He taught the class about The Scarlet Letter, making Olive realize how the novel closely related to her own life.

He went on to star as Robert on HBO’s popular series Divorce.

He also played Sandman in the 2007 movie Spider-Man 3.

His most recent credit is in 2023 in the role of Stone on the TV Series Twisted Metal.

5. Lisa Kudrow (Mrs. Griffith)

Friends star Lisa Kudrow, 61, was already an established star when she took the role of Mrs. Griffith – a school guidance counselor.

Kudrow is best known for her iconic role as Phoebe Buffay on the hit sitcom Friends.

She won an Emmy for Best Actress for the role which she played from 1994 to 2004, and alongside her cast mates, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry, who would go on to earn a whopping $1M per episodes in the later seasons of the smash hit sitcom. 

She also voiced Judy Elk on the animated Facebook Watch series Human Discoveries, and appeared as Charmaine in the Olivia Wilde-directed movie Booksmart. 

Her most recent credit includes TV series Time Bandits, where she starred as Penelope. 

As for her personal life, Kudrow has been married to Michel Stern since 1995. 

6. Patricia Clarkson (Rosemary)

Clarkson has also appeared alongside Amy Adams in the HBO miniseries Sharp Objects, adapted from Gillian Flynn’s novel.

She won a Golden Globe for the supporting role in 2019. 

She portrayed Adora Crellin, the overbearing southern housewife mother to Camille Preaker (Adams) and Emma Crellin (Eliza Scanlen).

After a series of brutal murders of young girls bring prodigal daughter Camille back home to investigate for her newspaper, she and Adora clash in increasingly sadistic ways.

The series was generally well-received by critics, who singled Amy and Patricia’s performances for special praise.

She also played Ava Paige in the Maze Runner films, based on James Dashner’s dystopian novels. 

7. Cam Gigandet (Micah)

Cam Gigandet, 42, played Micah, a student who had an affair with Mrs. Griffith. Gigandet went on to star in the 2020 Netflix thriller Dangerous Lies (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2024)

Cam Gigandet, 42, played Micah, a student in his 20s who had an affair with Mrs. Griffith which resulted in him getting chlamydia.

He blamed the STD on Olive so that others wouldn’t find out about his and Mrs. Griffith’s affair.

Gigandet went on to star in the 2020 Netflix thriller Dangerous Lies.

He also starred in films including The Magnificent Seven, Broken Vows, The Shadow Effect.

He shares three children with wife Dominique Geisendorff.

8. Aly Michalka (Rhiannon) 

Aly Michalka, 35, played Olive’s best friend Rhiannon. Her most recent acting credit is as Lexi Dunn on the show The Good Doctor in 2022 (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2023)

The former Disney Channel star also guest-starred on Two and a Half Men, MacGyver and Anger Management.

Aly is also in a band with her sister, Amanda Michalka. The pop duo are known as Aly & AJ.

9. Stanley Tucci (Olive’s father, Dill) 

Stanley Tucci, 63, played Olive’s loving father Dill. He is currently working on the National Geographic docuseries, Tucci: The Heart of Italy (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2023)

Tucci is most well known for his portrayal of Nigel from the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Prada.

He also starred in The Hunger Games franchise as Caesar Flickerman.

And the actor continues to be busy.

He is currently working on the National Geographic docuseries, Tucci: The Heart of Italy, following the actor as he explores different regions of Italy.

Tucci has been married to Felicity Blunt, the sister of Emily Blunt, since 2012.

He also shares three children with his first late wife Kathryn Spath, who passed away in 2009 from breast cancer.

10. Fred Armisen (Pastor)

Fred Armisen, 57, portrayed a pastor that Olive went to in need of advice. His career has continued to flourish, and he recently starred in the TV series Unstable as Leslie (pictured left in Easy A, and right in 2023)

Armisen rose to fame on Saturday Night Live, where he appeared from 1997 until 2013. 

He also starred in Portlandia from 2011 until 2018.

His career has continued to flourish, and he recently starred in the TV series Unstable as Leslie.

He’s been married to Riki Lindhome since 2022. They have one child together.
