As February comes to a close, Ukraine is set to experience a shift in weather patterns, signaling the onset of spring. According to Natalia Ptukha from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the end of February and the beginning of March will feature a mix of sunny days and unstable weather.
Ptukha noted that warmer and more humid air will increasingly influence the weather in Ukraine, particularly on February 24 and 25. During this period, most regions will experience unstable weather conditions, with precipitation expected in the form of wet snow and rain, ranging from light to moderate intensity.
Daytime temperatures will vary between -4°C and +3°C across the country, with the southern regions and Zakarpattia seeing slightly warmer conditions, reaching between +2°C and +8°C during the day.
Cloudy skies will dominate, and icy conditions are anticipated on roads, except in the southern and southeastern areas.
Weather Outlook for Late February
From February 26, the southeastern part of Ukraine may still experience rain and wet snow, but the majority of the country will likely see a decrease in precipitation. A drop in temperatures is also expected.
On the night of February 26, temperatures will likely fall to between -2°C and -8°C in most regions, with the Carpathians possibly experiencing lows of -12°C. During the day, temperatures will range from -4°C to +1°C, while the southern and eastern regions will remain milder, hovering around 0°C, and parts of Crimea may reach up to +6°C.
Last Days of Winter in Ukraine
The final days of February, specifically February 27 and 28, are forecasted to be dry, with nighttime temperatures dropping to between -1°C and -8°C. Daytime conditions will bring clearer skies and temperatures ranging from -3°C to +3°C.
In the extreme west and southern parts of the country, temperatures may stabilize between +2°C and +8°C, with Zakarpattia potentially reaching as high as +12°C. Thus, February is expected to conclude with sunny weather, albeit with nighttime frost.
March Weather Forecast
The first three days of March will be influenced by an anticyclone, gradually easing nighttime frost conditions. The initial days of March are anticipated to mirror the late February weather, characterized by high pressure and clearer skies, though nighttime temperatures may still drop below freezing.
Spring Approaches Ukraine
Earlier forecasts by meteorologist Igor Kibalchich indicated a steady increase in temperatures across Ukraine this week. The most significant warming is expected in the western and southwestern regions, where meteorological spring may begin, with daytime temperatures occasionally exceeding 10°C.
