Ukraine Implements Scheduled Power Outages Amid Energy Crisis

On February 22, Ukraine will experience scheduled power outages across most regions as part of an energy conservation strategy. This measure, announced by the national energy company Ukrenergo, aims to manage the impact of recent attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

Ukrenergo indicated that these outages are necessary due to the consequences of Russian missile and drone strikes on the energy system. The company has urged citizens to conserve electricity whenever it is available, as the situation may change throughout the day.

Power Outage Schedules by Region

In the Sumy region, Sumioblenergo has reported that power will be cut off between three to six times throughout the day for all consumer groups.

Similarly, in the Kharkiv region, Kharkivoblenergo has confirmed that power outages will occur from midnight to midnight, affecting all consumer categories with two to four interruptions daily.

In Chernihiv, residents can expect power outages two to three times during the day, as stated by Chernihivoblenergo.

Zaporizhzhya will also see power cuts across all consumer groups, with Zaporizhzhyaoblenergo predicting two to three outages per day, alongside restrictions for industrial consumers.

Poltavaoblenergo has outlined a detailed schedule for Poltava region, indicating specific times for outages, including:

  • 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM: 2 outages
  • 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM: 3 outages
  • 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM: 3.5 outages
  • 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM: 4 outages
  • 8:00 PM to 11:59 PM: 3.5 outages

In the Cherkasy region, residents will experience four to five outages throughout the day, as reported by Cherkasyoblenergo.

Current Energy Situation in Ukraine

Meanwhile, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to halt emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine starting February 23 if oil deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline are not restored. Although the supply disruptions were caused by Russian attacks, Fico has placed the blame on Ukraine.

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has warned of potential new strikes targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, indicating that while the situation has improved due to repair efforts and rising temperatures, vigilance is still necessary.

Scheduled power outages will be implemented across Ukraine on February 22 due to the impact of Russian attacks on the energy system. Citizens are advised to conserve electricity and stay informed about the outage schedules in their regions.
