Scheduled Power Outages Across Ukraine on March 5 Due to Energy System Strain

On Thursday, March 5, several regions in Ukraine will experience scheduled power outages from 08:00 until the end of the day. This decision follows the impact of recent Russian missile and drone attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

The National Energy Company of Ukraine, known as Ukrenergo, announced that industrial consumers will also face power restrictions. The outages are part of an effort to stabilize the energy system.

Ukrenergo noted that the situation regarding power supply may change, and residents are advised to check their local energy companies’ official pages for specific outage times and locations.

Current Energy Situation Updates

Recent reports indicate that the deficit of electricity in Ukraine’s energy system has significantly decreased, from a winter shortage of 5-6 GW to approximately 1 GW currently. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal highlighted that the energy sector’s situation this summer will depend on the scale and effectiveness of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, the level of protection for facilities, and the pace of distributed generation development.

Furthermore, Ukrainian parliament member and energy committee member Serhiy Nahornyak suggested that Russia may attempt to disrupt centralized water supply in major cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Kharkiv. He urged families to prepare for potential risks by ensuring they have adequate supplies of drinking and technical water.

Scheduled power outages will affect various regions in Ukraine on March 5 due to the impact of Russian attacks on the energy system. Residents are encouraged to check local energy providers for specific outage details.
