The 34th Separate Marine Brigade has released a video showcasing the destruction in Oleshky, a city in the Kherson region of Ukraine, currently under Russian occupation. The footage highlights the severe impact of the ongoing conflict, depicting a once-thriving community now reduced to ruins.
In the video, the brigade draws a parallel to the film “Interstellar,” stating, “A city turned into a ghost town by the Russians. Here, no one can rewrite the script.” This commentary underscores the profound changes the city has undergone since the onset of the occupation.
Human rights concerns regarding Oleshky have been raised by Ukrainian officials. Dmitry Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights, remarked in late March that the city is merely “surviving” rather than living, indicating the dire conditions faced by its residents.
Reports from 2023 revealed that Russian forces have forcibly displaced locals from Oleshky and nearby Holaya Prystan. The homes of these residents have been repurposed for housing Russian military officers or establishing firing positions, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the area.
