US Embassy in Riyadh Targeted by Drones Amid Rising Tensions with Iran

The United States Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was attacked on March 3 by two drones, believed to be of Iranian origin. The incident resulted in a small fire and minor damage to the embassy building.

According to reports from the Saudi Ministry of Defense and comments made by President Donald Trump, the attack occurred in the morning local time. Preliminary assessments indicate that both drones struck the embassy, leading to a limited fire and visible smoke rising over the diplomatic district of Riyadh.

In a statement to NewsNation, President Trump confirmed that a response to the attack would be forthcoming, stating, “You will find out soon.” However, he did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the response.

Following the incident, the U.S. Embassy issued a notice advising American citizens in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dhahran to remain sheltered and to avoid visiting the embassy until further notice.

On February 28, Israel conducted airstrikes against Tehran, which escalated tensions in the region. President Trump subsequently announced that U.S. military forces had initiated a significant operation against Iran, aimed at neutralizing perceived threats from the Iranian regime. He accused Iran of financing and training militant groups in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drones towards Israel and attacking U.S. military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In response to the military operations, French President Emmanuel Macron called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The European Union reiterated its commitment to ensuring regional security and stability in the Middle East.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the need to provide Iranians with an opportunity to rid themselves of a “terrorist regime” and to guarantee security for all nations affected by attacks originating from Iran.

On February 28, President Trump claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had died, a statement later confirmed by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). The following day, the IRGC announced the commencement of what it termed the “most destructive offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic” against Israel and U.S. military bases. Trump warned the Iranian regime to abandon these plans, threatening a “very strong response” if they did not.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was attacked by drones linked to Iran, resulting in minor damage. President Trump has promised a response, as regional tensions escalate following military operations against Iran.
