The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported that its Special Operations Center, known as “Alpha,” successfully destroyed half of Russia’s Pantsir air defense systems in 2025 through targeted long-range strikes.
The Pantsir system is recognized as a modern and critical component of Russia’s air defense capabilities, with each unit valued between $15 million and $20 million. These systems have proven particularly effective against Ukrainian long-range drones.
The SBU emphasized that the systematic elimination of Pantsir units serves a strategic purpose: to breach the enemy’s air defense and create corridors for striking targets deep within Russian territory. This operational success enables Ukrainian defense forces to effectively target military bases, supply depots, airfields, and other key installations of the occupying forces.
In total, the value of all Russian air defense systems destroyed by SBU’s Alpha unit in 2025 is estimated at approximately $4 billion.
The SBU's Alpha unit has reported a significant reduction in Russian Pantsir air defense systems, highlighting the strategic implications for Ukraine's military operations. The destruction of these systems is part of a broader effort to enhance operational effectiveness against Russian military assets.
