Ukrainian Regions Face Power Outages Following Russian Strikes and Severe Weather

Multiple regions in Ukraine are experiencing significant power outages due to recent Russian drone and artillery attacks, as well as severe weather conditions. Areas affected include Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson, and Odesa, according to a statement from the National Energy Company of Ukraine, Ukrenergo.

Emergency restoration efforts are underway where safety conditions permit. Energy workers are striving to repair equipment damaged by enemy fire as quickly as possible, the report noted.

Additionally, over 170 populated areas across nine regions—Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Odesa, and Mykolaiv—are either fully or partially without electricity due to adverse weather. Repair crews have already begun restoration work in these areas.

“Electricity consumption aligns with seasonal trends. As of April 7 at 9:30 AM, consumption levels matched those of the previous day. On April 6, the daily peak consumption was recorded in the evening, 1.1% higher than the maximum from the prior working day, which was April 3. The fluctuations are attributed to a drop in temperatures across much of Ukraine,” the statement added.

Consequently, there is an urgent need for energy conservation across all regions of Ukraine. The energy company has urged citizens to limit the use of high-power electrical devices from 6 PM to 10 PM and to avoid using multiple such devices simultaneously.

The situation within the energy system remains fluid, and residents are advised to check local energy provider pages for the latest information on power outages.

In related developments, on the night of April 6, Russian forces launched drone attacks on Odesa during an air raid alert. The strikes resulted in significant damage to various city locations, including a 20-story residential complex, parts of a six-story building, and several private homes. Additionally, a kindergarten, a store, administrative buildings, and at least 20 vehicles were affected.

Tragically, three individuals lost their lives in these attacks, including a 53-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman, and a 2.5-year-old girl. Fifteen others sustained injuries.

In Chernihiv region, Russian strikes targeted energy facilities, leading to power outages in various areas. The city of Chernihiv and its communities are now relying on alternative power sources for critical infrastructure.

In Kyiv region, the city of Slavutych temporarily lost power due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, affecting approximately 21,000 residents.

Sumy region also reported power supply disruptions due to Russian shelling, with damage to homes, agricultural buildings, and civilian infrastructure across seven communities.

In Kharkiv region, strikes on April 5-6 resulted in hits in several districts, including Kharkiv, Izium, Kupiansk, Bohodukhiv, and Chuhuiv. Emergency services responded to ten fires ignited by these attacks, with at least five individuals suffering injuries or acute stress reactions.

Recent Russian strikes and severe weather have left numerous regions in Ukraine without power, prompting emergency restoration efforts. The situation has led to calls for energy conservation as the nation grapples with ongoing attacks and harsh conditions.
