Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope that the next European Union sanctions package will include measures targeting maritime services used by Russian vessels. In a recent address, Zelensky emphasized the need for effective pressure on Russia to end its military actions in Ukraine.
“We are counting on the next EU sanctions package to encompass what is necessary for real pressure on Russia regarding this war—specifically, to limit Russia’s capacity to continue its military operations,” he stated.
Zelensky underscored that banning maritime services for ships associated with Russia could serve as a significant incentive for the country to shift from warfare to genuine diplomatic negotiations. He remarked, “The war must be brought to an end.”
In conjunction with his call for EU action, Zelensky announced new Ukrainian sanctions against 225 captains of vessels involved in the transportation of Russian oil. This move reflects Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to curb Russia’s economic resources tied to its military activities.
The proposed sanctions aim to further isolate Russia economically and politically, reinforcing Ukraine’s stance on the necessity of international cooperation in addressing the conflict.
