The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has reported a successful strike on a Russian railway ferry in the Kerch Strait during the night of April 5-6, 2026. This operation targeted the ferry “Slavyanin,” which was the last operational railway ferry utilized by Russian forces in the region.
According to the intelligence agency, the ferry played a critical role in supplying Russian military forces in occupied Crimea with fuel, weapons, military equipment, and ammunition. The strike was executed using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), rendering the ferry inoperative.
The Ukrainian intelligence also noted that another Russian ferry, “Avangard,” was incapacitated in March 2026, during which the “Slavyanin” sustained damage. This series of attacks underscores ongoing efforts by Ukrainian forces to disrupt supply lines supporting Russian military operations.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Russian military authorities regarding these incidents. Verification of the claims made by Ukrainian sources through independent channels remains unachievable at this time.
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various military and logistical targets within Russia and occupied territories, including Crimea, have been subjected to aerial assaults. Ukrainian military officials assert that these operations are part of a broader strategy aimed at diminishing the combat capabilities of Russian occupying forces and compelling Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.
