Ukrainian Forces Target Russian Oil Refinery in Saratov Region

In the early hours of March 21, Ukrainian defense forces conducted a strike on facilities at the Saratov Oil Refinery located in Russia’s Saratov region. This operation was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The refinery is known for processing crude oil and producing fuel and lubricants, which are essential for supporting Russian military operations. The General Staff indicated that preliminary reports suggest damage to the secondary oil processing unit and a vertical storage tank.

“According to initial information, the secondary oil processing unit and the vertical tank RVS-10000 were damaged. The extent of the losses is being assessed,” stated the General Staff.

The Saratov Oil Refinery is among the oldest in Russia, with a processing capacity of 4.8 million tons as of 2023. This facility plays a significant role in the region’s energy sector and has been a key supplier of fuel for military logistics.
