Ukrainian Court Extends Detention of Ex-Energy Advisor Amid Corruption Allegations

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has extended the detention of Igor Mironyuk, a key figure in the ongoing ‘Midas’ corruption case, until May 3, 2025. The court has also reduced his bail amount to 100 million hryvnias.

Mironyuk, who has been in custody since November 2022, is alleged to have ties to former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, a claim his lawyer disputes. Initially, a bail of 126 million hryvnias was set at the time of his arrest.

His defense team has argued that there is no basis for the charges, asserting that the case is fabricated. Mironyuk has denied any connections to Energoatom or the Ministry of Energy, stating that his relationship with Halushchenko is strictly professional, as he served as his legal advisor.

According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), Mironyuk was identified as ‘Rocket’ in recorded conversations that revealed his involvement in managing illicit operations, alongside Dmitry Basov, who was referred to as ‘Tenor.’ These operations allegedly included controlling procurement processes, personnel decisions, and financial transactions within the state energy company.

During a court session on November 11, prosecutors presented evidence suggesting that Mironyuk is suspected of illegal enrichment and money laundering. The NABU reported that a criminal organization was systematically obtaining unlawful benefits from Energoatom’s contractors, amounting to between 10% and 15% of contract values.

In total, eight individuals have been charged in connection with this case, including Mironyuk.

The High Anti-Corruption Court has extended Igor Mironyuk's detention while reducing his bail amid serious corruption allegations. Mironyuk, linked to a broader investigation into illegal activities within Ukraine's energy sector, faces multiple charges including money laundering.
