Ukrainian Biathlete Dmytro Pidruchny Discusses Future Plans Post-2026 Olympics

Dmytro Pidruchny, a prominent Ukrainian biathlete, recently shared insights into his future in the sport following his participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics. This event marked his fourth Olympic appearance, and he finished 17th in the mass start race, which was his last event at these Games.

Having debuted in the Olympics in 2014, Pidruchny is now contemplating whether he will continue competing as he approaches the age of 38 during the next Olympic cycle in France. In a recent interview with Suspilne Sport, he expressed uncertainty regarding his future in biathlon, stating that he would only be able to make definitive plans after the current season concludes.

“Right now, I need to focus on finishing the season, and then I can think about the future. Of course, I would like to compete for higher positions. Biathlon is very competitive now, and there are many strong opponents, making it challenging to consistently keep up with them. I am doing everything I can and giving my all to biathlon, but I feel that something might be lacking. I strive to do my best, and I see the results as they are. Naturally, I always want to achieve more. Even when you win, there is always a desire to be stronger and better. So, for now, I am satisfied with what I have.”

When asked if he plans to participate in future World Cup seasons, Pidruchny remarked, “My current task is to finish the season, and after that, I can make a decision. I am no longer young at 34, and honestly, every training session feels much harder than it did when I was 25 or 22. Living at this pace for 15 years is undoubtedly challenging, but perhaps I still have more to give. I will make my decision after the season ends.”

Pidruchny made his World Cup debut in the 2012-2013 season and has spent 13 years competing at this level. Throughout his career, he has participated in four Olympic Games and achieved a podium finish only once, winning a gold medal in the pursuit event in 2019.

Dmytro Pidruchny, after finishing 17th in his last Olympic race, reflects on his uncertain future in biathlon as he approaches the end of his career. He plans to evaluate his options after the current season concludes.
