U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran, suggesting it may conclude in a matter of weeks rather than months. His remarks followed a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in France, where he emphasized the United States’ commitment to its objectives in the region.
Rubio indicated that Iran might consider implementing a toll system in the Strait of Hormuz, but he asserted that any permanent toll on this critical waterway would be deemed unacceptable. The Secretary also addressed inquiries about the possibility of a U.S. ground invasion of Iran, stating, “We can achieve all our objectives with our ground forces. However, we will always be prepared to give the President maximum flexibility and the best opportunity to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, should they arise.”
On the same day, President Donald Trump, while speaking to farmers, remarked that “everything is going very well in Iran.” He noted that he had postponed attacks on Iranian energy facilities until April 6 at the request of Iran. However, intermediaries involved in negotiations between the U.S. and Iran reported that Iranian officials had not requested a pause in strikes.
Additionally, several Iranian media outlets cited an unnamed high-ranking official in Tehran who stated that Iran would not accept Trump’s proposed “15 points” and would determine independently when and under what conditions to conclude the conflict.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments reflect a strategic outlook on the Iran conflict, suggesting a swift resolution is possible. Meanwhile, the U.S. administration continues to navigate complex negotiations amid conflicting reports from Iranian officials.
