Trump Justifies Military Action Against Iran in Congressional Letter

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump submitted an official communication to Congress regarding recent military strikes against Iran, outlining the rationale behind the actions taken.

In the letter addressed to acting Senate President Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, Trump stated that no American ground troops were involved in the strikes. He emphasized that the operation was designed to minimize civilian casualties, prevent future attacks, and neutralize Iran’s hostile actions.

Trump acknowledged that it is currently impossible to assess the full extent of military operations against Iran and indicated that U.S. armed forces are prepared to take further actions if necessary. He wrote, “While the United States seeks a swift and lasting peace, it is not possible at this time to determine the full scope and duration of military operations that may be required.”

The President reiterated that U.S. forces remain ready to respond to any threats or attacks against the United States or its allies and partners. He asserted, “I ordered this military operation in accordance with my duty to protect Americans and U.S. interests both domestically and abroad, as well as in the interest of national security and foreign policy of the United States.”

Trump also highlighted that he acted within his constitutional authority as Commander-in-Chief and head of the executive branch in conducting foreign relations. He noted, “Despite repeated attempts by my administration to achieve a diplomatic resolution to Iran’s malign behavior, the threat to the United States, its allies, and partners has become intolerable.”

Earlier on February 28, President Trump announced that the U.S. had initiated a significant operation against Iran, which was also supported by Israel. In response, Iran launched attacks on territories in several Gulf countries where U.S. facilities are located.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper stated that the U.S. did not start this conflict but is committed to ending it. Previously, Trump had remarked that American military forces are “decimating Iran,” but warned that a “great wave” of actions was still to come.

President Trump has sent a letter to Congress justifying military strikes against Iran, emphasizing the need for national security and readiness for further action. He noted that U.S. forces acted without ground troop involvement and aimed to minimize civilian casualties.
