U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán just two days before parliamentary elections in Hungary. In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged Hungarian citizens to support Orbán, describing him as a “true friend, fighter, and winner.”
Trump stated, “Election Day is April 12. Hungary, get out and vote for Viktor Orbán. I fully and unequivocally support his re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary—Viktor Orbán will never let the great people of Hungary down. I support him at every stage.”
In his endorsement, Trump characterized Orbán as a “strong and influential leader” with a “proven track record of achieving phenomenal results.” He praised Orbán’s efforts in protecting Hungary, boosting the economy, creating jobs, promoting trade, halting illegal immigration, and ensuring law and order.
Trump highlighted the strengthening of U.S.-Hungarian relations during his presidency, attributing much of this success to Orbán’s leadership. He expressed eagerness to continue close cooperation, stating, “I look forward to continuing our strong partnership so that both our countries can further advance on this wonderful path to success and collaboration.” Trump also noted his support for Orbán during the 2022 elections.
In the lead-up to the elections, concerns have emerged among Hungarian voters regarding potential electoral fraud and foreign interference. Recent polls indicate that the opposition party, Tisza, led by Péter Mádjár, is currently leading Orbán’s Fidesz party by margins ranging from 9 to 13 percentage points in various categories.
Orbán has urged voters to support his Fidesz party, claiming that his opponents will “stop at nothing to seize power.”
U.S. President Donald Trump has endorsed Viktor Orbán ahead of Hungary's parliamentary elections, emphasizing their strong relationship. Concerns about electoral integrity and opposition gains are notable as the elections approach.
