Trump Announces New Oil Refinery in Texas, First in 50 Years

Former President Donald Trump has announced the establishment of a new oil refinery in Brownsville, Texas, marking the first such facility built in the United States in half a century. This development is part of a $300 billion investment by America First Refining.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed pride in the project, referring to it as a historic agreement that represents a significant victory for American workers and the energy sector. He credited partners from India, particularly Reliance Industries, for their substantial investment in the venture.

According to Trump, the refinery is expected to enhance domestic energy supply, bolster national security, and promote American energy production. He emphasized that it would be among the cleanest refineries globally.

“It will ensure global exports and bring thousands of long-awaited jobs and growth to a region that deserves it,” Trump stated.

The announcement comes at a time when oil prices have surged past $100 per barrel due to ongoing conflicts in Iran, the first such increase since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. On the same day, Trump’s administration defended its decision to temporarily lift certain sanctions on Russian oil, predicting that the spike in gasoline prices driven by the Iranian conflict would be short-lived.

Additionally, reports indicate that the Trump administration requested Israel to refrain from targeting energy facilities in Iran, particularly its oil infrastructure, to mitigate further disruptions in the oil market.

Donald Trump has unveiled plans for a new oil refinery in Texas, the first in 50 years, backed by a $300 billion investment. The facility aims to enhance domestic energy supply and create jobs amidst rising oil prices due to geopolitical tensions.
