The Brovary City District Court is scheduled to hear the indictment against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and several security officials on February 19, 2026. They are accused of orchestrating the violent dispersal of protesters and the subsequent shootings that occurred during the events of February 18-20, 2014, known as the Euromaidan protests.
According to Denis Ivanov, a prosecutor involved in the Maidan cases, the court has been preparing for this trial since January 28, 2026, when the judges set the case for substantive consideration. The hearing is set to commence at 10:00 AM, during which the prosecutor will present the indictment.
The preparatory phase of the trial has lasted for over a year and a half. Throughout 2025, the Brovary court scheduled seventeen hearings, but only ten were held. Delays were attributed to various factors, including the absence of defense attorneys, issues related to access to state secrets, and the expiration of the presiding judge’s assignment.
Ivanov expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace of the proceedings, stating, “I am not satisfied with the dynamics of the case. As a prosecutor, I want a quicker resolution, but within the legal framework, we are doing everything allowed to move towards a final decision.”
It is important to note that on January 20, 2026, Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Yanukovych to 15 years in absentia for illegally seizing lands in Sukholuchya.
The Brovary City District Court will begin hearings against Viktor Yanukovych and security officials for their roles in the 2014 violence against protesters. The trial has faced numerous delays, raising concerns about the pace of justice in high-profile cases.
