On March 12, a tragic incident occurred in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, where six children fell through ice on a local body of water. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), two of the children, aged 17 and 10, lost their lives.
A local resident managed to rescue four of the children before emergency responders arrived. The bodies of the deceased were subsequently recovered by DSNS divers and brought to shore.
In light of this incident, the DSNS has issued a warning urging the public to refrain from venturing onto ice, particularly during the unstable spring weather when ice conditions can be extremely hazardous.
Prior to this event, the DSNS reported that throughout the winter season, 60 individuals have died in Ukraine due to accidents on waterways, including one child.
