Russian Strikes in Dnipropetrovsk Region Result in Casualties and Damage

A recent series of Russian attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine has led to one fatality and three injuries, according to regional military administration head Oleksandr Hanzha. The assaults involved artillery, drones, and guided aerial bombs, targeting several districts including Nikopol, Synelnykove, and Pavlohrad.

In Nikopol, local communities such as Pokrovske, Myrivske, Chervonohryhorivka, and Marhanets were affected. A 44-year-old man lost his life, while a 39-year-old woman sustained injuries. The attacks caused significant damage to a high-rise building, private homes, a dormitory, and various vehicles.

Hanzha reported that in Synelnykove, two women were injured, and nearly twenty private houses, a church, and vehicles were damaged. Infrastructure in the Pavlohrad district also suffered from the strikes.

Russian forces have been consistently targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure with various weapons, including drones and missiles. These actions are classified by Ukrainian authorities and international organizations as war crimes, emphasizing their deliberate nature.

The ongoing bombardments of essential services and healthcare facilities are viewed as attempts to deprive the population of electricity, heat, water, communication, and medical assistance, which some legal experts and human rights advocates interpret as genocidal acts.

The 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide obligates member states to prevent and punish acts of genocide during both wartime and peacetime. The convention defines genocide as actions intended to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.

Indicators of genocide include the killing of group members, causing serious bodily harm, deliberately creating living conditions aimed at the group’s destruction, and public incitement to commit such acts. The Russian leadership, however, denies that its military is intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure or causing civilian casualties.

Recent Russian attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region have resulted in one death and multiple injuries, with significant damage to civilian infrastructure. These actions are being classified as war crimes by Ukrainian officials and international organizations.
