Russian Drone Strikes Target Lviv, Causing Damage and Injuries

On March 24, Lviv experienced a series of explosions during an air raid alert as Russian forces launched drone attacks in the region. The strikes resulted in damage to central areas of the city, including residential buildings in the Sykhiv neighborhood.

According to Lviv’s Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, the assault damaged the UNESCO-listed Bernardine Monastery located in Soborna Square. Reports indicate that drones hit a residential building in Sykhiv on two occasions.

At 16:29, Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, confirmed that cultural heritage sites were affected. He reported at least two individuals sustained serious injuries as a result of the attacks.

By 17:10, Mayor Sadovyi announced that a 51-year-old woman had been hospitalized with mine-blast injuries to her lower limbs. Another individual sought treatment for minor injuries. As of 18:54, the total number of injured had risen to 17, according to Andriy Moskalenko, the first deputy mayor of Lviv. By 19:22, Kozytskyi reported that the number of injured in the Lviv region had increased to 19.

Kozytskyi noted that residential buildings on Soborna Square, Bratів Rohatyntsiv Street, and Chervonoyi Kalyny Street were ablaze due to the drone strikes. Additionally, debris from the drones ignited a private home in the village of Sernyky within the Bibrka territorial community. Firefighters were deployed to multiple locations to combat the blazes.

Mayor Sadovyi confirmed further damage to a residential building in central Lviv, stating that emergency services were actively responding to the incidents.

Another drone strike occurred in Sykhiv on Chervonoyi Kalyny Avenue, with reports indicating that the building was hit twice during the air raid alert. Sadovyi also mentioned a third site on Bandera Street, where debris from the drones fell.

As of 18:20, 17 apartments were deemed uninhabitable due to the damage. The Lontsky Museum and the Organ Hall also sustained damage.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast, over 120 firefighters were engaged in response efforts. Emergency personnel worked simultaneously at several locations to extinguish fires and mitigate the consequences of the attacks. Roofs of residential buildings were ablaze, vehicles were damaged, and windows were shattered.

Kozytskyi indicated that critical infrastructure in the Komarno and Dobrosyn-Maheryv communities was also impacted by the drone strikes. An air raid alert was initially declared at 14:28 in the Zolochiv district of Lviv due to the threat of drone attacks. Alerts were subsequently issued in Lviv, Drohobych, Stryi, Sambir, and Yavoriv districts. Explosions were reported in Lviv at 16:19, with the mayor confirming that a Russian drone was approaching the city and air defense forces were activated. The air raid alert was lifted at 18:34 in Lviv Oblast.

On March 24, Lviv faced drone strikes from Russian forces, resulting in injuries and damage to cultural heritage sites. Emergency services responded to multiple locations to manage the aftermath.
