The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to impact vital energy infrastructure, as a gas extraction facility operated by Naftogaz in the Poltava region has halted operations following recent Russian strikes. Sergey Koretsky, the head of Naftogaz Ukraine, confirmed the disruption on March 27, citing significant damage from the attacks.
Koretsky reported that Russian forces have targeted Naftogaz infrastructure approximately 40 times since the beginning of the year. The latest assault resulted in a fire at the facility, leading to its immediate shutdown.
In a related incident, local authorities in Poltava announced that over 5,000 residents lost access to gas due to a Russian strike on an industrial site in the region. This disruption highlights the broader implications of the ongoing conflict on civilian energy supplies.
Naftogaz has consistently reported damage to its facilities from Russian military actions. Since the escalation of hostilities, the company has documented over 400 attacks on its infrastructure. Notably, in 2025 alone, 229 attacks were recorded, surpassing the total from the previous three years combined. These assaults have adversely affected domestic gas production, compelling Naftogaz to import additional gas supplies to ensure stability during the heating season.
Recent Russian attacks on Naftogaz infrastructure in Ukraine have led to significant disruptions in gas production and supply. The ongoing conflict has resulted in substantial damage to energy facilities, impacting thousands of residents in the Poltava region.
