Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his decision to release two Hungarian citizens who were serving in the Ukrainian armed forces. This statement was made during a meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in Moscow.
Putin indicated that the issue of the detained individuals had been raised by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban during a recent phone conversation. He confirmed that the two individuals would be allowed to return to Hungary, stating, “I have decided to release two individuals. You will be able to take them with you, as requested by the Prime Minister, directly on the plane you arrived on and will return to Budapest.”
Additionally, Szijjarto had previously expressed concerns regarding what he described as a “violent hunt” for Hungarians in Ukraine for mobilization purposes. He has also supported the illegal transportation of Ukrainian men across the border, arguing that mobilization efforts in Ukraine hinder the resolution of the conflict initiated by Russia.
