A police officer was fatally shot in Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast, on the morning of March 19 while conducting a routine document check. The assailant fled the scene, prompting a manhunt by local authorities.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 11:30 AM when officers approached a man who appeared suspicious. The suspect opened fire on the police group, resulting in the death of one officer.
“Captain Oleg Zakharенко, the senior district officer of the No. 4 police department of the Kramatorsk district police, died at the scene from gunshot wounds,” the police stated.
Law enforcement agencies are currently searching for the shooter, and all relevant services are on-site investigating the murder.
