Poland Completes Air Defense Operation Amid Russian Strikes on Ukraine

Poland has concluded a military operation involving air and ground defense systems in response to recent Russian attacks on Ukraine. Authorities in Warsaw confirmed that there were no breaches of Polish airspace during the operation.

The operation took place overnight on March 24, utilizing both aviation assets and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems. This deployment was part of measures to ensure the security of Polish airspace given the heightened activity of Russian strikes targeting Ukraine.

The Polish military command emphasized that no violations of the Republic of Poland’s airspace were recorded. Additionally, Poland expressed gratitude to its allies for their support during this operation.

NATO forces, including the Alliance’s air command, as well as the air forces of Spain and the Netherlands, participated in the operation to bolster security in the region.

Context of Russian Attacks on Ukraine

On the night of March 23-24, multiple explosions were reported in Poltava, Ukraine, with air force officials indicating a significant number of drone strikes in the area. The attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to eleven others, according to the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Djakivnych.

As of 4:00 AM, reports indicated damage to residential buildings and a hotel in the Poltava community due to the strikes. Furthermore, Russian forces launched extensive attacks on Zaporizhzhia using drones and missiles, resulting in at least one fatality and five injuries. Damage was recorded to six apartment buildings, two private homes, a store, non-residential structures, and an industrial facility.

In addition, attacks on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine led to the disconnection of the Isakcha–Vulcanesti power line in Moldova, which serves as a primary export channel for electricity to Romania.

Poland has completed a military operation to secure its airspace amid ongoing Russian strikes on Ukraine. The operation involved NATO forces and highlighted the regional security dynamics in light of recent attacks on Ukrainian territory.
