Ozzy Osbourne to Receive Posthumous Honor at Brit Awards 2026

Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath, who passed away in July 2023, will be honored posthumously at the upcoming Brit Awards for his significant contributions to music.

Stacey Tang, chair of the Brit Awards committee for 2026, remarked on Osbourne’s profound impact on contemporary music, stating, “Ozzy Osbourne was a powerful force in modern music. With his unmistakable voice and unique presence, he transformed the sound and spirit of rock, inspiring generations of artists.” She emphasized that the award recognizes the artist’s remarkable legacy, which is built on originality and enduring influence.

The ceremony will also feature a special all-star rock tribute performance in honor of Osbourne, including a unique arrangement of his song “No More Tears,” the title track from his 1991 album.

The performance is curated by Osbourne’s wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, who invited longtime family friend and music enthusiast Robbie Williams to host the event. Musicians who have played with Osbourne over the years, including Adam Wakeman, Robert Trujillo, Tommy Clufetos, and Zakk Wylde, will participate in the tribute.

About the Brit Awards

The Brit Awards, organized annually by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), celebrate the best in British and international music. The first ceremony took place in 1977. The 46th Brit Awards will be held on February 28, 2026, in Manchester, marking the first time the event will not take place in London.

Who is Ozzy Osbourne?

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England, Osbourne grew up in a working-class family. Despite a challenging upbringing and difficulties in school, he developed a passion for music. After a brief stint in prison, he formed Black Sabbath with Tony Iommi and others, a band that became foundational to the heavy metal genre.

Osbourne launched a successful solo career in 1979, releasing several iconic albums and gaining notoriety as a flamboyant performer, famously biting the head off a bat during a concert. He also became a television personality, founded the Ozzfest music festival, and expressed support for Ukraine in 2022.

His accolades include an Ivor Novello Award, five Grammy Awards (with 12 nominations), the NME Godlike Genius Award, and recognition as a Classic Rock Living Legend.

In 2022, Osbourne condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and, along with his wife Sharon, offered refuge to several Ukrainian families in their Buckinghamshire estate.

Ozzy Osbourne will be posthumously honored at the Brit Awards 2026 for his significant contributions to music. The ceremony will feature a tribute performance, highlighting his legacy in the rock genre.
