Oschadbank Accuses Hungary of Video Fabrication in Cash Seizure Case

Ukrainian financial institution Oschadbank has alleged that Hungarian authorities falsified a video used as evidence in the case concerning the unlawful detention of Ukrainian cash transporters and bank funds earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Hungary’s National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) released a statement regarding the ongoing investigation. The announcement included a link to a video purportedly obtained from the mobile phone of one of the cash transporters detained in Hungary.

For nearly a month, Oschadbank has sought clarification from Hungarian authorities regarding the legal grounds for the seizure of its employees’ property, including the mobile phone of one of the transporters, as well as access to the information contained on it. In light of the lack of response, the bank contends that the confiscation of the phone and its continued retention, along with access to its contents, is unlawful.

Consequently, Oschadbank asserts that the publication of the video from this device is also illegal. The bank officially stated, “The video that was published has been falsified. It contains audio of conversations among the cash transport team. Subtitles in Hungarian were added for the local audience, including a fabricated phrase ‘corruption money,’ which forms the basis of NAV’s conclusions linking this video to the case of the unlawful seizure of Oschadbank’s funds.”

Oschadbank emphasized that the video in question is archival and was recorded on March 10, 2025, near Vienna. All cash transport vehicles are equipped with mobile offices, which include laptops and printers for document processing. However, during the trip on March 10, 2025, an inverter malfunction necessitated the team’s reliance on external power sources to print documents in a parking area.

The printed documentation for the cargo included a CMR, packing list, invoice, and ticket, all of which bore the signature of the team leader and were stamped. Oschadbank stated, “All mentioned processes have been properly documented and recorded in the customs systems of the sender (European Union) and Ukrainian customs authorities. The original documents shown in the video are available and contain the appropriate stamps from Hungarian and Ukrainian customs authorities.”

The choice of the parking area for accessing the power supply was influenced by the fact that cash transport teams do not use hotels on short routes, as the vehicles are equipped with mobile beds for overnight stays.

Oschadbank is demanding the immediate return of all unlawfully seized assets and reserves the right to take legal action against the dissemination of misinformation.

In related developments, a representative of Oschadbank has filed a complaint with Hungary’s chief prosecutor regarding the cash transporters’ case.

Oschadbank has accused Hungarian authorities of fabricating a video related to the unlawful detention of its cash transporters. The bank demands the return of seized assets and has initiated legal proceedings.
