Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially lodged a protest with Russia regarding its recent attacks on civilians in Ukraine during the Easter period. The protest was delivered to a representative of the Russian embassy in Vilnius, condemning what Lithuania termed a “terrorist campaign” against innocent Ukrainians.
In a statement shared on social media, the ministry expressed outrage over the assaults, which reportedly included strikes on residential buildings, shopping centers, and public transport facilities across Ukraine from April 4 to April 7. These attacks utilized combat drones, guided bombs, and missiles, raising serious concerns about violations of international law.
The Lithuanian government emphasized that such actions constitute war crimes, asserting that there is no statute of limitations on accountability for these offenses. The note of protest called for immediate cessation of hostilities and demanded that Russia withdraw its occupying forces from all internationally recognized Ukrainian territory.
Furthermore, Lithuania pledged to continue its efforts to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable. The ministry reiterated its commitment to seeking full reparations for the damages inflicted on Ukraine due to Russian aggression.
Specific incidents highlighted in the protest included a devastating strike on a food market in Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region, on April 4, 2026, which resulted in five fatalities and 27 injuries. Additionally, on April 7, Russian forces targeted a civilian bus in Nikopol using an FPV drone, leading to four deaths and 17 injuries among passengers.
Lithuania has formally protested against Russia's attacks on civilians in Ukraine, labeling them as war crimes. The Lithuanian government is committed to holding those responsible accountable while demanding an end to Russian aggression.
