On March 23, Latvia formalized a memorandum of understanding with key Ukrainian enterprises and organizations in the defense sector. This agreement, announced by the Latvian Ministry of Defense, aims to foster long-term collaboration between the two nations.

The memorandum is designed to provide targeted state support to Ukrainian companies intending to establish or expand their operations in Latvia. The initiative will be coordinated by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency, the Ministry of Economics, and the Ministry of Defense.

This partnership seeks to create a joint defense industry ecosystem that promotes technological exchange and economic growth in both countries. Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “The combat experience of the Ukrainian defense industry combined with Latvia’s technological potential is a powerful combination. The signed memorandum is not merely a formal agreement; it serves as a practical tool for us to develop innovative solutions that will enhance the security of both nations and the capabilities of our armed forces. Latvia is becoming a stable base for Ukrainian companies in Europe, while simultaneously boosting our own industrial potential.”

The Ministry of Defense highlighted that this initiative represents a substantial addition to Latvia’s previous support for Ukraine, laying the groundwork for new innovations, attracting investments, and strengthening regional security capabilities.
