Kyiv Faces Extended Power Outages Amid Energy Challenges

Residents in certain areas of Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region are experiencing longer power outages, according to a statement from DTEK, the energy company responsible for electricity distribution.

The affected districts include Solomianskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi, where outages are being implemented according to individual schedules. These schedules can be accessed via the Kyiv Digital platform or DTEK’s chatbot.

In addition, the Bucha district in the Kyiv region is also facing extended outages today.

Meanwhile, Ukrenergo, the national electricity transmission company, reported a decline in electricity consumption. As of 9:30 AM on March 10, consumption levels were 4.4% lower than at the same time the previous day.

The company noted that due to the aftermath of previous large-scale attacks by Russia, power restrictions are currently in place for industrial consumers in certain regions. During peak evening hours, forced hourly outages are also anticipated for all consumer categories.

In a related update, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a video address on March 1 that Ukraine has endured the most challenging winter of the war thus far. He expressed gratitude to the military, energy workers, and other services for their efforts during the coldest period but cautioned that Russian attacks are expected to continue.

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Attacks on energy facilities have intensified since the autumn of 2025.

The Security Service of Ukraine has classified these strikes on energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. They reported that since the beginning of the current heating season, at least 256 aerial attacks by Russia on energy facilities and heating systems have been documented.

Kyiv and its surrounding areas are facing extended power outages due to ongoing energy challenges exacerbated by Russian attacks. The national energy company has noted a decrease in consumption, while officials warn of potential further outages as the situation evolves.
